Music Director
High Plains Public Radio seeks a Music Director to work in the organization's Amarillo, Texas, facility. HPPR, which began in Garden City, Kansas, thirty years ago, serves Western Kansas, the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles and Far Southeast Colorado. High Plains Public Radio is headquartered in Garden City and also operates studios in Amarillo, Texas, the largest city in HPPR's service area.

The Music Director's primary duty is live-hosting High Plains Morning, which airs weekdays from 9 a.m. until noon. High Plains Morning is a popular music program based in the adult album alternative format, with an emphasis on singer-songwriters. The Music Director also administers HPPR's successful Living Room Concert Series, which features nationally-recognized artists performing at HPPR-Amarillo's performance space. Recent bookings include Brave Combo, Eilen Jewell and Rebecca Loebe. The Music Director also produces recordings of Living Room Concerts for broadcast in our locally-produced program, High Plains Live.

HPPR's Music Director must also be knowledgeable about classical music. The Music Director also produces HPPR's Amarillo Symphony Presents, which features live performances by the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra. The Music Director serves as the primary liaison for HPPR's partnerships with the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Music Amarillo.

High Plains Public Radio is a small organization, so broadcasters have a wide range of responsibilities. The Music Director must also share live-severe-weather-coverage duties with other programming staff. Effective participation in on-air fundraising is a must.

Amarillo is a regional economic and cultural center. It's a half-day's drive from Albuquerque and Santa Fe. Dallas/Fort Worth and Denver are a day's drive away. Southwest, American and Continental Airlines serve Amarillo. West Texas A&M University is located in nearby Canyon, while Texas Tech and Lubbock are a two-hour drive to the south. Amarillo enjoys a semi-arid climate, with year-round sunshine, mild (by Texas standards) summers and occasionally snowy winters.

The position includes a competitive salary and generous benefits. High Plains Public Radio is an Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity Institution. Minorities, women, veterans and persons with disabilities are encouraged to apply.
To apply, send resume, cover letter and three audio samples to programming@hppr.org.
All applications must be received by 12 p.m. on Tuesday, August 3rd.
