Most of High Plains Region Receives "F" for Reproductive Health and Rights

populationinstitute.org

A new report by the Population Institute grades states on how well they support reproductive health and rights. With the exception of Colorado, all states in the High Plains listening region received a grade of “F.” While Colorado received a “C” grade, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska all received the lowest possible score. The annual report rates each state in four categories related to pregnancies, sex education, birth control and access to abortion.

The Hays Daily News reportsthat Kansas Sen. Laura Kelly of Topeka agreed with the ruling. “From everything I’ve seen,” she said, “I think the state warrants an F. I think some local groups are doing good things. At the state level, no.”

Sen. Mary Pilcher-Cook of Shawnee disagreed with her Kansas colleague. “I’m not concerned about the Population Institute’s grade card,” she said, adding: “I think they have their priorities in the wrong place.”
