Run to Stop Human Trafficking: Interview with ONE-Amarillo

High Plains Morning was honored to speak with Denise Cross (Treasurer/Financial Advisor & Volunteer) and Stefanie Rodarte-Suto (Volunteer & Presenter) at ONE-Amarillo, an area nonprofit committed to stop human trafficking in the greater Amarillo area by educating, empowering, and engaging with those at risk, survivors, and compassionate volunteers in our community that are willing to help. They stopped by the studio to chat about their fundraising race and the reason folks should pay attention to the influx of “modern-day slavery” we’re seeing across our area.

Statistics from the National Human Trafficking Hotline & Polaris BeFree Textline:

-More than 40,000 total cases of human trafficking have been reported to the Hotline in the last 10 years.

-The Hotline annually receives multiple reports of human trafficking cases in each of the 50 states and D.C.

-The number of human trafficking cases that Polaris learns about in the U.S. increases every year.

-20% of texting conversations on the Polaris BeFree Textline were from survivors of human trafficking compared to 13% of phone calls on the Hotline.

-The Hotline receives an average of 90 calls per day.

This problem is very real, and it’s everywhere. Read stories from survivors.
