This Thanksgiving, Stay Calm . . . And Listen

After the most contentious presidential election in memory, many of us are just hoping to get away from the Thanksgiving table without witnessing a murder.

Here, courtesy of The Wall Street Journal, are some tips for surviving Thanksgiving dinner this year.

The most important lesson comes down to one word: Listen. That means, no interrupting—even if you have to bite your tongue instead of the turkey. It also means, not “obsessing about what you’re going to say when the other person’s mouth stops moving.”

Try to practice what spiritual experts call Divine Listening. That means quieting your own inner dialog, the part of your mind that wants to talk back.

This holiday, forget about being right. Accept your emotions, and move on. Try to be calm and accepting, instead. Because in this political environment, we could certainly use a little more empathy and acceptance.
