The Kansas Health Institute reported when it comes to the upcoming health insurance exchange, state-run is better than federal.
A study by Georgetown University's Health Policy Institute revealed consumers in those states "will likely have a greater ability to make informed choices regarding their coverage as well as more information about plan quality than what current federal regulations require."
17 states and the District of Columbia have chosen to administer their own marketplaces. Colorado and New Mexico are the only two in the high plains area. The federal government will operate New Mexico's individual market in 2014.
