Solar power continues to expand across the Sooner State.
As The Tulsa World reports, in this state that has long been a bastion for proponents of fossil fuel, photovoltaic panels can be seen glittering beneath the Oklahoma sky more and more frequently these days.
Oklahoma Gas and Electric recently completed its second solar farm, with an operation that encompasses 80 acres in Garfield County and utilizes 38,000 solar panels. The new solar farm features a new technology, in which the solar cells use 50 percent fewer parts than traditional photovoltaic cells. These newer cells are designed to produce more energy than traditional panels.
Meanwhile, other solar farms have been popping up across the state, including Tri-County Electrical Cooperative’s farm near Hooker in the Oklahoma Panhandle.
Solar energy growth in western Oklahoma has been far outpacing the progress in the eastern part of the state.
