Content Operations Manager


About High Plains Public Radio (HPPR)
HPPR serves the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles, Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado with public media services closely tuned to the environment, economy, cultures, history and community life of this High Plains region. These services include two audio programming channels (HPPR MIX offering news and mixed music and HPPR CONNECT with all news, information and talk) and hppr.org focused on regional news, features and events. To provide access to these services, HPPR operates a network of 18 FM stations along with digital streaming and mobile app.

About this position
HPPR’s Content Operations Manager plays a central role in ensuring the reliability and quality of the listening experience of its programming services for listeners. They are also instrumental in providing support and guidance to HPPR’s program hosts and features producers, including full- and part-time staff and volunteers, in the creation of quality content. As part of a small dedicated staff, they have the further opportunity to learn about and contribute to all aspects of HPPR’s operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Program Director in the preparation and checking of daily program automation and traffic logs and playlists, including tracking and resolving any discrepancies that occur.
  • Managing national program subscriptions and downloads through various distribution systems.
  • Implementing program changes, substitutions and adjustments (e.g. special news coverage) in the audio automation and traffic systems.
  • Serving as the back-up for the Program Director when away.
  • Serving as part of the on-call team to respond to off-hours service problems and outages. 
  • Assisting program hosts and feature producers with recording and post production work.
  • Scripting and recording promos, promo tags and voice-tracks.
  • Assisting staff with basic IT support as needed.
  • Participation in membership campaigns and events.

Needed experience and skills

  • Audio automation and traffic system scheduling, logging and checking (or equivalent)
  • Audio recording, editing and other post-production work
  • Online tools use for work coordination and information management (Google Drive, Zoom, Slack, etc.)

Compensation range
$34,000 - $38,000
