Kansas Deadline to Switch Party Affiliation Comes Early This Year

If you live in Kansas and you’re planning to switch your party affiliation and vote in the August 2nd primary election, you’d better hurry. The Hutchinson News reportsthat the deadline for Kansas voters to change political party affiliation comes earlier than ever this year. Those who wish to switch must do so before noon on Wednesday, June 1.

That’s a big change from the old deadline, which came just two weeks before the primary election date. One issue with the new date: Registered voters will not know the full slate of candidates they can vote for in advance of the party-switching deadline. Those voters who are unaffiliated, however, can choose which political party ballot they want when they go to the polls on election day. But these unaffiliated voters must still declare a party to obtain a ballot.

If the minority party does not have a candidate running, the outcome of the primary will determine the winner.
