A Federal judge has ordered Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach to produce documents he showed to President Donald Trump in a private meeting.
As The Kansas City Star reports,Kobach was asked by the White House to outline a plan to overhaul the Department of Homeland Security. The district court in Kansas City, Kansas, has requested to see the documents, to determine whether they’re relevant to an ongoing Kansas Voter I.D. lawsuit.
The suit concerns a controversial law that requires voters to produce proof of citizenship at the polls, and the legislation has already suffered defeats in court. Critics have called the law a blatant form of voter suppression on the part of the Republican Party in Kansas.
It’s believed Kobach’s Homeland Security documentscould contain information about a plan to discriminate against immigrants from predominantly Muslim countries.
