Federal Shutdown Has Little Effect On Texas Panhandle—So Far

As of yet, the shutdown of the Federal Government is having a limited effect on the Texas Panhandle.

As The Houston Chronicle reports, the Texas congressional delegation was hard at work this weekend, trying to help broker a deal to end the shutdown.

But in the Panhandle, life continues as usual for the most part. Everyday services like the U.S. Postal Service are still functioning. So, unless you’re planning to try to renew your passport this week, you likely won’t notice the effects.

In the meantime, Dallas Republican Pete Sessions, chairman of the House Rules Committee, has accused Democrats of political gamesmanship, calling the shutdown a “manufactured crisis."

And on the other side, the Democratic National Committee has announced a series of online ads targeting five Senate Republicans, including Texas Sen. Ted Cruz.
