Colorado Among Nation’s Healthiest States, Oklahoma Among Least Healthy

For the year 2018, three out of the five states in the High Plains Public Radio listening region fell into the bottom half of national rankings when it comes to overall health. And Oklahoma once again performed particularly poorly in the rankings.

According to new data from americashealthrankings.org, only Colorado and Nebraska ranked in the top half of a list of America’s healthiest states, with Colorado landing at number 8 and Nebraska at number 15. Kansas just missed making the top half, landing at number 27. Texas fell further down the list, at number 37, and Oklahoma was near the bottom at number 47.

Hawaii and Massachussetts were ranked as the healthiest states in America, while Louisiana and Mississippi are the least healthy.

America’s Health Rankings builds its model on the idea that health is a state of “complete physical, mental, and social well-being.”
