Colorado’s upcoming single-payer health care vote in November is dividing Democrats in the state, reports The Gazette.Amendment 69 would create universal health care in Colorado, essentially eliminating all premiums and deductibles and replacing them with a taxpayer supported system.
When supporters of the amendment and their Democratic opponents scheduled a press conference in the same location, things got interesting. The two factions verbally sparred outside the offices of the liberal-leaning ProgressNow in Denver.
Gov. John Hickenlooper, a Democrat, opposes the measure, as does Colorado U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet. They are opposed by lawmakers like Democratic State Sen. Irene Aguilar.
The Democratic factions seem unlikely to convince one another of their positions. The conflict may carry over from November into the 2017 legislative session.
