Colorado Gov. Candidates Polis And Stapleton Advance To General Election

U.S. Representative Jared Polis won the Democratic primary and state treasurer Walker Stapleton won the Republican primary for Colorado governor Tuesday.

As Colorado Public Radio reports, Polis won the Democratic primary with close to 45 percent of the vote and Stapleton won the GOP primary with 49 percent of the vote.

At their respective election night parties, each candidate looked ahead to the general election, with Polis telling supporters that together, they would form a coalition of “Democrats and independent voters,  of moderate Republicans and rational Republicans.”

Stapleton told his supporters it had been way too long since a Republican held the office. The last Republican to hold the seat was Bill Owens, who served from 1999 to 2007.

The winners of the state treasurer’s primary were Democrat Dave Young and Republican Brian Watson.

The winners of the US House primary were Diana DeGette, Joe Neguse, Diane Mitsch Bush, Karen McCormick, Doug Lamborn and Jason Crew.
