The Texas panhandle continues to see an uptick in COVID-19 cases.
As of Monday, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) dashboard, excluding Amarillo, there were 47 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Texas panhandle. Meanwhile, Amarillo continues to see an uptick in cases, mostly attributed to community spread.
The increase is also a function of increased testing and receipt of completed test results.
The counties reporting the greatest number of cases in the Texas panhandle include: Castro (10), Gray (9), Deaf Smith (7), Donley (7), and Moore (6).
Hutchinson and Oldham Counties are currently reporting two cases, while Sherman, Hansforth, Hemphill and Swisher Counties each reported one case as of Monday. That data, according to the DSHS, is current as of 8 p.m. Sunday.
According to the City of Amarillo’s latest COVID-19 Report Card (pictured in English and en Espanol), there were 41 cases in Potter County and 36 in Randall County, as of Monday. Fifty-six of those cases are due to community spread and 12 of the cases involve individuals who traveled recently. The other nine cases are still under investigation.
To date, there have been two coronavirus-related deaths in Amarillo, one in Randall County and one in Potter County.
