KJJP-FM 105.7 is currently operating at very reduced power and signal range using a back-up transmitter. This is because of complicated problems with its very old primary transmitter. Local engineers are currently working on that transmitter and consulting with the manufacturer to diagnose and fix the problems. We apologize for this disruption and service as we work as quickly as possible to restore KJPFM to full power. In the mean time you can always stream either the HPPR mix service or HPPR connect service using the player above or the HPPR app.

In partnership with High Plains Public Radio and HALO, Garden City Community College is hosting a book signing event with Dennis Raphael Garcia, Garden City native and author of Marine, Public Servant, Kansan The Life of Ernest Garcia in the Endowment Room of the Beth Tedrow Student Center at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 6.

Learn about the inspiring biography of Ernest Garcia, a Garden City native whose remarkable life in public service took him from the wheat fields of Kansas to the White House and the halls of the US Senate. Dennis shares the amazing history of the Garcia family's immigration from Mexico in the early 1900's to southwest Kansas, and Ernie's story of grit, determination and love of country.

In conjunction with National Hispanic Heritage Month in September, Garcia is promoting  his biography that tells the story of a Latino American who exemplifies the grit and spirit of the High Plains.

Valerie Mendoza, Lecturer at the University of Kansas says,  ”(Garcia) contributes to Kansas history and culture by fleshing out the diversity of the Kansas experience in a way few other books have done. This engaging biography details Garcia’s humble beginnings in western Kansas to his rise as sergeant at arms for the US Senate, hobnobbing with the Washington elite.”

The book was recently named a finalist for the prestigious National Latino Book Awards, Best Biography category.

Bring your copy of Marine, Public Servant, Kansan: The Life of Ernest Garcia to have it signed. Books will also be available for purchase.
