Garden City To Host Governor Candidate Forums

Greater Garden CIty

The Garden City Chamber of Commerce will host a Republican governor candidate forum on Wednesday, July 11 and a Democratic gubernatorial forum on Tuesday, July 24.

Republican gubernatorial candidates Secretary of State, Kris Kobach,  Insurance Commissioner, Ken Selzer, and former Sen. Jim Barnett have confirmed plans to attend the Republican forum, which is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. On Wednesday, July 11. Governor Jeff Colyer will not attend but is sending Lt. Gov. Tracey Mann in his place.

It will begin with a two-minute statement from each candidate, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session. Questions must be submitted in advance to the Chamber of Commerce and will be pre-screened for appropriateness and to remove duplicates. To submit a question, email it to Chamber President Myca Bunch.

Following the forum, a banquet will be held, where attendees can ask the candidates additional questions.

A democratic gubernatorial will be held July 24, and follow the same format. Candidates Carl Brewer, Laura Kelly, and Josh Svaty have confirmed their attendance.

“It is our goal through both the Republican and Democratic forums,” said Myca Bunch, “To provide residents in southwest Kansas the opportunity to hear from each candidate prior to the election.”

Both events are open to the public.
