High Plains Food Bank Requests Donations to Plug Summer Shortfall

High Plains Food Bank

High Plains Food Bank  is in crucial need of financial donations, reports MyHighPlains.com.

The food bank is asking for money to prevent a $300,000 summertime shortfall. The bank is traditionally known for collecting cans. But this summer they’re asking for monetary donations.

The money will go toward preventing many families rom falling deeper into a cycle of poverty. Summer is an especially hard time for poor children. School is out, meaning many children no longer receive the nutritious meals they were getting at school. Emily Bell, Marketing and Communications Manager at HPFB, said the food bank can create 4 meals for every $1.00 donated. That means a $30.00 donation will become 120 meals for poor families across 29 counties.

Bell said the food bank provides nourishment for up to 9,000 families each month. But this month the organization is suffering, and needs a bit of extra help to get meals to the needy.
