A political action committee called Main Street Kansas has been making questionable claims about moderate Kansas Republican candidates. It has now been discovered,as the Lawrence Journal-World reports, that the group’s radio ads are being funded by the Kansas Chamber of Commerce. The funding might possibly constitute a violation of Kansas ethics law, says the Journal-World.
One such ad claims that moderate GOP Senate candidate “Carolyn McGinn voted with Hillary and Obama’s party 4,181 times.” The ad doesn’t mention that the majority of these votes were on noncontroversial matters, such as naming a bridge or highway. Such measures are extremely common and pass with broad bipartisan support.
The PAC has paid over $60,000 for radio advertising. The group hasn’t divulged which candidates the ads are intended to help.
