Sometimes it can be hard to know how your elected officials are voting on important issues. Now, a new toolhas been created to clear up the confusion in Oklahoma.
Oklahoma currently has a $1.3-billion-dollar budget shortfall. The hole Oklahoma finds itself in is far deeper than that of neighboring Kansas, which has drawn far more nationwide criticism for its imprudent spending and tax-cutting policies. But, as KFOR notes,Oklahoma has drawn its own share of criticism.
Back in May, The New York Times published an editorial entitled “Oklahoma Makes the Poor Poorer,” criticizing the state for cutting the earned income tax credit but keeping hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks for oil and gas companies. Meanwhile, A Washington Post article pointed out that while many of Oklahoma schools were suffering because of the budget crunch, lawmakers focused on criminalizing abortion and trying to impeach President Obama.
Oklahoma’s Legislature has considered a lot of important laws this year. These include SB 1605, which eliminated the child care tax credit, and HB 2665, which would eliminate Medicaid eligibility for nonpregnant able-bodied adults under the age of 65.
