A new venture from PRX and the Center for Investigative Reporting called Reveal has been producing shows of great interest to High Plains farmers and ranchers. One recent episode, “The Salmonella Shuffle” shows how the U.S. government still allows companies to sell chicken that is infected with salmonella.
Another recent episode, tells the story of how, for decades, Florida tomato pickers endured some of the worst working conditions in America. Reveal traveled to Florida to report what happened after tomato workers organized, pushed for reform and got the public to help.
Another episode, “A Brief History of the Modern Strawberry,” takes us back to WWI. Reveal shows how the red berries became so ubiquitous and shows the consequences for American farmworkers.
