Texas Tech President Steps Up Recruitment Efforts In Rural West Texas

Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec is making a strong push to recruit students from small towns and rural regions of West Texas, reports The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.

The President has been touring small towns in the region, including Roosevelt, Idalou and Crosbyton, to promote Tech to high school students there.

The President says he sees these kids as an opportunity for the university, especially given that more than two out of every three students at Texas Tech hail from over 300 miles away.

The President says he believes West Texas students have characteristics that rub off on students from outside the region, including politeness, attentiveness, and a strong work ethic.

“We want students like you at Texas Tech,” President Schovanec told the students. “Don’t think because it’s down the road that you’re sacrificing something.
