Where Do Trump and Clinton Fall on Ag Issues?

farmanddairy.com

In the past, HPPR has done separate stories on where the two major-party presidential candidates stand on agriculture. FarmandDairy.com has published a side-by-side comparison.

Donald Trump plans to be an “active participant” in writing the next farm bill, and supports a strong safety net for farmers. Hillary Clinton feels much the same, though her plan is a bit more nuanced. She believes in a “focused safety net” for farmers and ranchers, and plans to target federal resources in commodity payment, crop insurance, and disaster assistance programs.

When it comes to GMOs, Trump supports them. “Government should not block positive technological advancements in agriculture,” he has said. Hillary Clinton supports a national solution to the GMO labeling question.

And on taxes, Trump wants to cut them. But Hillary wants to raise taxes on the rich, including a minimum 30 percent tax on incomes over $1 million and higher taxes on big inheritances.
