In a Tough Housing Market, Amarilloans Turn to Manufactured Homes

Bidgee

As Amarillo’s economy booms, many lower-income Amarilloans have struggled to find homes with adequate space for their families in an oversupplied housing market.

As The Amarillo Globe-News reports, many residents are turning to manufactured homes, as a result. Manufactured homes, also known as mobile homes, offer more room and more privacy than apartments in the city.

Last year, Amarillo developers received permits to construct or renovate 104 manufactured homes. That’s more than double the usual rate.

The Amarillo area holds around 4,500 mobile homes, far more than similarly-sized cities like Lubbock, Columbus, GA, Rochester, Minn, and Greeley, Colo.

A manufactured home is defined as a mobile home built after 1976.
