Texas Tops High Plains States In CNBC's State Economy Rankings, But Oklahoma Falls Behind

CNBC has released their scorecard on the economic climate in all 50 states, and Texas took the top spot.

The news network ranked states on more than 60 measures of competitiveness, including workforce, quality of life, education, business friendliness and cost of living. Texas ranked number one overall, also ranking first in infrastructure and economy.

The Lone Star State did, however, land in the bottom half in quality of life and education. Among other High Plains states, Colorado and Nebraska also performed well. Colorado took the fifth spot overall, while Nebraska was 14th.

Kansas and Oklahoma didn’t do as well in the rankings, with both landing in the bottom half of states. Kansas’s economy came in 35th in the rankings, while Oklahoma landed at number 39.

The report noted Oklahoma’s low cost of living, but asserted that the state “needs to deal with its poor schools.”
