Businesses—Including Southwest Airlines And Amazon—Come Out In Opposition To Ending DACA In Texas

The State of Texas is suing the Federal Government, asking them to end the DACA program, which protects immigrants who were brought to the US as children from deportation.

Now, as The Houston Chronicle reports, a number of prominent businesses have come out in opposition to the lawsuit. The corporations, which include Southwest Airlines, Uber, Verizon and Amazon, say ending DACA would have a negative impact on the Lone Star State, to the tune of $6 billion.

The group of businesses is asking a federal judge to reject the lawsuit, which was filed by Attorney General Ken Paxton earlier this year.

The DACA program protects 113,000 people statewide, including a large number in the Texas Panhandle.

In a joint statement, the companies said ending DACA would translate into “lost productivity and revenue for companies, lost tax revenue for governments, and broader economic contraction.”
