A new book by a member of a think tank in Texas insists that renewable energy creates “false hope,” reports The Texas Tribune.In a talk last week, Kathleen Hartnett White praised fossil fuels and called the advent of fracking “breathtaking.” White directs the Texas Public Policy Foundation’s Armstrong Center for Energy and Environment. While she spoke, protesters outside the event did their best to make their displeasure at her message known. The protesters chanted: “No more coal, no more oil, keep the carbon in the soil!”
Meanwhile, White told the audience that economic prosperity has been historically linked with the use of fossil fuels. In the past, White has gone as far as to say that “Fossil fuels dissolved the economic justification for slavery.”
White’s speech implied that countries can either rely on fossil fuels or renewables, but not both. White is a member of the CO2 Coalition, a nonprofit founded in 2015. A Greenpeace sting operation found that the group was willing to author oil and gas-friendly reports in exchange for money.
