Groups fighting the proposed anti-fracking ballot measures in Colorado are spending more than 35 times what supporters of the measure are investing, reports The Colorodoan.
Opponents of the initiatives to ban the drilling technique have raked in about $15 million to date. The lion’s share of that money is being supplied by oil and gas companies. Over $10 million of that money has come from just two energy companies, Anadarko Petroleum Corporation and Noble Energy.
Luis Toro of Colorado Ethics Watch said this shows “that (businesses) are ready to spend a lot of money in the best interest of the company’s bottom line.” On the anti-fracking side, the vast majority of donations have come from individuals pitching in less than $1,000 apiece. Supporters of fracking regulations have only been able to raise less than half a million dollars total.
