Last year was the second hottest year in recorded Texas history, reports The Texas Observer.
When it came to warm temperatures, 2017 ranks only behind 2012 in terms of hotness in Texas. Furthermore, six of the 10 warmest years on record have occurred in the 21st century.
The Lone Star State barely experienced a winter, with the warmest February on record. In the Texas Panhandle, wildfires burned up about 500,000 acres and killed five people during the first three months of the year.
2017 was also marked by one of the most devastating hurricanes in Texas history. Hurricane Harvey inundated Houston with over 60 inches of rain.
Amazingly, Texas didn’t break any rainfall records, mostly because of unusually dry conditions in the later part of the year. Last year was only the 35th rainiest in recorded history in Texas.
