Xcel Energy has set a single-year record by cutting carbon emissions by over 10%.
According to a press release from the company, over the past 15 years, the energy giant has managed to slash its carbon emissions by 44%.
Company spokesman Wes Reeves said, "In our Texas-New Mexico region, the addition of large amounts of wind energy over the past year have played a role in this reduction, along with an increased reliance on natural gas-fueled power plants, which are less carbon intensive than coal-fueled plants."
The drop in carbon emissions is part of the company's larger goal to become 100% carbon-free by 2050.
Xcel Energy, which is headquartered in Minneapolis, supplies power to most of the Texas Panhandle.
