Texas House Chair of Science and Technology Should Learn About Climate Change

te

Scheleen Walker, guest columnist for Texas Weekly, recently sounded off about the embarrassment of having an ill-informed chairman of the House Committee on Science and Technology.

Walker says Rep. Lamar Smith, R-San Antonio, hasn’t even bothered to learn the basics of climate disruption.  She goes on to say experts abound to help Smith, even in his own district.  Those local experts could help explain the effect of human activity, primarily the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation, has radically changed the atmosphere.

97 percent of the world’s climate scientists agree that climate-warming trends over the past century are very likely due to human activity.

Walker says the world cannot afford to wait any longer for climate action.  The past three years of Texas drought have given a glimpse of what’s to come unless action is taken.
