After SCOTUS Gay-Marriage Decision, Brownback Moves to Dismiss ACLU Lawsuit

Gage Skidmore

The State of Kansas would like to dismiss a federal lawsuit taken up by the ACLU last year, in which several gay couples have sued for equal treatment under the law, alleging discrimination from religious organizations in the state.

But Governor Sam Brownback has called for a dismissal of the case, saying it is no longer relevant in the wake of the Supreme Court’s historic ruling legalizing gay marriage nationwide, reports The Topeka Capital-Journal.

The ACLU disagrees, claiming that Brownback’s move to dismiss the case is simply an effort to shield Kansas religious groups from having to answer for their discriminatory behavior.
