A Kansas Congressman Looks to Benefit from Boehner's Departure

In regional news, one Kansas lawmaker is looking to benefit from the turmoil following House speaker John Boehner’s resignation. Following the news that the speaker was stepping down, Kansas 1st District Congressman Tim Huelskamp hailed the announcement. Huelskamp and Boehner had repeatedly butted heads, reports Wichita member station KMUW. As Huelskamp came into conflict with the House leader, he lost his positions on the important Agriculture and Budget Committees. But with Boehner’s departure, Huelskamp is looking to re-energize his role in Congress.

According to one House source, the division between the two was personal as well as political. Huelskamp hopes to have a better relationship with the new speaker, which could lead to more benefits for Kansans. Boehner officially steps down at the end of this month.
