A group of leaders from cities in Southwest Kansas traveled to Washington, D.C., and met with congressional leaders earlier this month. The group, known as the Southwest Kansas Coalition, consists of representatives from Garden City, Dodge City and Liberal. The coalition was formed to increase awareness of issues important to Southwest Kansas, reports the Dodge City Daily Globe.

One issue brought forth by the members was how to bring a permanent immigration office to the region. Other topics included immigration, essential air service and passenger rail service. Regarding air service, one coalition member complained of frequently canceled flights into Southwest Kansas.

The group also sought money to help improve rail conditions for the Southwest Chief.
