Clinton Inches Toward Trump in New Texas Polling

Marc Nozell

Donald Trump’s lead in Texas has dwindled to six points, according to a new Public Policy Polling survey.

As The Austin American-Statesman reports, Trump leads Clinton 50 to 44 percent in a head to head contest. When minor party candidates are included in the mix, Trump still leads Clinton by six percent, but the numbers drop to 44 percent for Trump and 38 percent for Clinton. In that scenario, 6 percent goes to Libertarian Party candidate Gary Johnson and 2 percent to Green Party candidate Jill Stein.

While Public Policy Polling is a Democratic-leaning firm, the organization has a strong history of accuracy. The poll concluded that a Democratic victory in Texas this year still remains a stretch. But, the pollsters added, “there are signs of Democrats being positioned to become seriously competitive there in the years ahead.”
