Kansas GOP Leaders Stand by Trump--While Condemning Him

Evan Vucci

Kansas Republicans are standing behind their presidential nominee—for now—reports The Lawrence Journal-World.

Kansas GOP candidates for the US House of Representatives remained silent this week about Donald Trump’s controversies over the weekend. But none of them has, as of yet, decided to follow House Speaker Paul Ryan into openly abandoning the New York billionaire’s bid for the White House. Over the weekend, Kansas Rep. Lynn Jenkins was quoted by CBS News condemning Trump for boasting of groping women's genitals. She has since remained quiet on the matter.

Rep. Kevin Yoder of Kansas’s Third District has repeatedly drawn criticism from certain elements of his party for his support of Trump over recent months. On Monday Yoder criticized Trump’s remarks but maintained his support for Trump to be the next president. Fourth District Rep. Mike Pompeo issued a similar statement.
