Colorado business leaders form coalition for immigration reform

Business leaders in Colorado are banding together to advocate for immigration reform.

As Colorado Public Radio reports, Coloradans for Immigration Reform, which consists of 13 pro-business organizations, including chambers of commerce and trade groups, recently formed to support policies favorable to immigrants.

The group supports development of a legal path to citizenship for undocumented workers and warn that mass deportations would weaken Colorado’s economy. Members of the group say their focus is to push for policies that support immigration reform that stimulates both the Colorado and the U.S. economies.

Mizraim Cordero, according to CPR, believes Republican control in Washington next year will increase chances for immigration reform.

“This is a great opportunity to get the immigration reform we need right,” Cordero said in the CPR story. “Perhaps, there should be less focus on a broader deportation effort and more focus on, what are the policies that will move our economy forward and that’s what we’re pushing.”

As the Denver Business Journal reports, the coalition was formed as an initiative of the New American Economy, an effort aimed at reforming the country’s immigration system by securing the border, while growing the economy.
