The issue of vehicle inspections gained some attention earlier this year, after the Texas Senate approved a bill that would make the necessity for inspections a thing of the past.
However, as The Fort-Worth Star Telegram reports, the headlines have led to some confusion. Despite the popularity of the vehicle-inspection bill in some quarters, Senate Bill 5188 was not approved by the House and thus is not yet the law of the land.
The bill’s sponsor, Sen. Don Huffines of Dallas, says he plans to reintroduce the measure during next month’s special session. He’s hoping for a different outcome this time around. “I'm committed to getting rid of the safety inspections for vehicles,” Hiffines said, adding: “It's a ripoff of our time and our money."
Opponents of the bill say it will lead to unsafe cars on Texas roads.
