Oklahoma's Proposed "Bathroom Bill" Has LGBTQ Advocates Concerned

The 2018 session of the Oklahoma Legislature begins in just over two weeks, and one particular bit of potential legislation is already garnering a good deal of attention, reports KFOR.

LGBTQ advocates in the Sooner State say they’re concerned another “bathroom bill” could become law in Oklahoma. Texans will recognize the term, as the Texas “bathroom bill” dominated the political conversation in the Lone Star State for much of 2016 and 2017, leading to internecine wars among Republicans in the state Legislature.

A separate “bathroom bill” in North Carolina drew national attention and led many companies to refuse to do business in the state, citing a belief that the bill was discriminatory.

A “bathroom bill” is a piece of legislation that requires citizens to use the bathroom that corresponds to their birth certificate.
