Four Price Drops Out Of Texas Speaker Race

Texas State Representative Four Price of Amarillo has dropped his bid to become the next speaker of the Texas House of Representatives, instead endorsing Representative Dennis Bonnen for the position.

As The Texas Tribune reports, Bonnen’s candidacy has gained real momentum in the last 48 hours, as four GOP legislators vying for the job dropped out of the race and endorsed the Angleton Republican.

Bonnen’s chances at taking up the gavel were greatly enhanced on Sunday, when Four Price dropped out and endorsed Bonnen. Price had previously been listed as among the favorites to take over the job.

Meanwhile, Democrats picked up 12 seats in last week’s elections, and they hope to be a bigger part of the conversation than in recent years. However, the GOP will still hold an 83-seat majority in the statehouse come January.
