An effort to recall Colorado Gov. Jared Polis has gained traction with the Secretary of State’s approval Monday.

As The Denver Post reports, the group Dismiss Polis is gathering signatures to oust Polis and on Monday, received approval from the Secretary of State’s Office to begin printing the petitions and distributing them to supporters.

Some conservatives in support of the effort say Polis and other Democratic lawmakers should be given the boot from office for passing laws on gun control and oil and gas restrictions and for passing the law that binds Colorado’s electoral college votes to the winner of the national popular vote.
The group gathering signatures has 60 days to submit the required number of signatures – 631,266 – from registered Colorado voters in order to get a special election on the ballot this fall.

If the group succeeds, it will be the first time in the state’s history that a sitting governor would be confronted with a recall election.
