Texas Senator Ted Cruz Self-Quarantines Over Coronavirus Concerns After CPAC Meeting

Ryan Poppe | Texas Public Radio

Texas Senator Ted Cruz announced Sunday he would self-quarantine after coming in contact with someone who tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Republican senator was attending the Conservative Political Action Conference in Maryland when potential exposure took place.

The American Conservative Union, which holds CPAC, alerted attendees over the weekend that one person had been previously exposed to the virus before attending the conference.

The person later developed symptoms and tested positive.

Cruz said he shared a handshake and had a conversation with the individual during CPAC, which ended last week.

Cruz said he was not experiencing any symptoms. He added that he was advised that he did not meet the criteria for self-quarantine after talking with public health officials in Houston and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

However, Cruz said that out of an abundance of caution he decided to remain in his Houston home until 14 days have passed since his interaction with the individual.
