As Smoke Clears, Texas Continues to Fund Planned Parenthood

Tamir Kalifa

Two months ago Texas Republican leaders announced they would kick Planned Parenthood out of Medicaid. But the organization is still receiving state funds to provide health care for low-income women, reports The Texas Tribune. And now the state officials who called for cutting the funding have fallen silent.

It remains unclear why Planned Parenthood has yet to receive the final notice of its funding being abolished. And the Office of Inspector General has declined to provide any details about its investigation into the organization.

There have been years’ worth of allegations by conservative lawmakers against the organization. These include accusations of fraud and improper harvesting of fetal tissue. However, the Texas Tribune article says, “repeatedly, when the smoke cleared there was no fire.”
