Kindness: The Secret Ingredient to Successful Dating

RENEE JONES SCHNEIDER

When dating, we often look for that perfect combination of good looks, ambition, and a sense of humor. But according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune,there’s another factor you may be considering without realizing it. That extra element is kindness. Researchers have found that benevolence is one of the most important qualities in a romantic partner.

Small gestures like lending an ear or doing a favor can enhance our likability and increase others’ willingness to commit to us. Here are some tips to increase your niceness factor. First, adjust your mind-set. Think of where someone else is coming from instead of how it affects you. Second, express gratitude and encouragement verbally. And ask lots of questions. Finally, kindness comes through most in our actions. Put down the smart phone. Offer a hug, or an umbrella in bad weather. And see if your love life doesn’t improve.
