Number of Concealed Weapons Applications Doubles in Colorado

Gun permit applications have skyrocketed this year in Colorado, reports Colorado Public Radio.Compared with 2015, the number of applications from people seeking to obtain a concealed weapons permit in the state has nearly doubled in 2016.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation recorded almost 32,000 applications in the first five months of the year. Last year saw only 16,500 applications during the same period. The bureau only began maintaining application records in 2008. Since that time, this year marks the first occasion when more than 5,000 applications were recorded per month for five consecutive months.

There were almost 26,000 firearm transactions in May of this year.
