Despite Setbacks, Rural Schools Are Improving

Gotog

Rural schools have had their share of struggles in recent years. Populations in the heartland are dwindling, and school funding often goes to more populous schools in large urban centers.

However, as US News and World Report recently noted, the news isn’t all bad. According to a new report, rural education has progressed over the last decade. And those improvements will likely continue through the expansion of broadband internet and a recognition by government officials that rural schools need increased flexibility. The report was published by the National Association of State Boards of Education. It announced that “rural schools share a common characteristic: They are called to do more with less.”

In fact, some rural school have distinct advantages over their urban counterparts. These include smaller classes and a more personalized learning approach.
