Almost half of Colorado school districts are not complying with a state transparency law,reports The Colorado Independent.
The watchdog group Colorado Ethics Watch has found that 43 percent of Colorado’s school districts are not complying with a law requiring school boards to post minutes of their meetings in a timely manner.
The law went into effect in June 2014. It says school boards must post minutes within 10 days of approving them.
Luis Toro, executive director of Colorado Ethics Watch, said the group is pleased that so many school districts are in full compliance. “But,” he added, “the percentage is still too low.” Toro said transparency among school districts is important for communities. Of school districts, that did not comply, 24 percent did not approve their minutes or approved but did not post them. Almost one in five school districts posted no information about board meetings, at all.
