Mental Health Tips for a Safe and Happy Black Friday

If you’re heading out into the frenzy of Black Friday, here’s some advice from mental health experts, courtesy of The Mercury News.

First of all, if you’re prone to over-shopping, consider visiting actual brick-and-mortar stores rather than shopping online.

Kenneth R. Yeager of the stress and trauma center at Ohio State University explains that with “cyber shopping, there’s a real risk of losing perception about how much you are picking up online.” But at an actual store, your arms or your basket or your car can only hold so much.

Yeager says some shoppers risk becoming obsessed with the risk-and-reward factor of finding great deals. If you find yourself becoming angry, short-tempered, or frustrated, that’s a sign that you should slow down and take a breath. Remember, this is supposed to be fun.
