West Texas A&M University has extended its spring break through March 25 to help prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Walter Wendler, president of WTAMU, said in an announcement Thursday that approximately two-thirds of courses have been moved online for the remainder of the semester.
Wendler said residence halls will remain open through spring break. Students who wish to check out of the residence halls are being asked to inform student housing at housing@wtamu.edu by 5 p.m. March 17. They will have until March 24 to move out of the residence halls.
WT has also canceled any public or special event that would have been taking place on campus, including the May commencement ceremony. This also includes all non-school activities that were scheduled to take place on campus.
Amarillo College has extended spring break until March 27, and then the campus will be moving to online courses that following week.
Amarillo College is in phase two of three of its action plan regarding coronavirus, which is “reacting if or when the virus is officially diagnosed in the community.”
Phase 3 is “responding as if every student and faculty member is diagnosed.”
