Another western Kansas county is reporting its first case of COVID-19.

The Stevens County Health Department reported its first case today, involving a man who traveled to an area outside of Stevens County with a high incidence of COVID-19 transmission.

The Stevens County Health Department is investigating all close contacts of the individual and those who were exposed are being contacted and asked to monitor symptoms of the virus.

Stevens County Health is advising people to adhere to the following recommendations from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE):

  • Avoid non-essential trips and stay home to the extent you can.
  • Follow all recommendations regarding self-quarantine
  • Avoid large gatherings (groups of more than 10)
  • If you do need to go out in public, ensure you maintain six feet distance from other people.

Gove County Health officials reported that county's first case on Thursday - a young, healthy woman who traveled out of state. This prompted the county to put a 30-day stay-at-home order into effect for Gove County, starting today.
