While we all hunker down in our present pandemic reality, some High Plains writers have been working hard to secure the future of their Kansas-based literature community. Today I spoke with Ronda Miller, who represents the Kansas Authors Club—the oldest literary club in the US, founded in 1904. She shared some details about the forthcoming virtual convention, “Writing Across Kansas: A Sense of Place.” It’ll take place October 2-4 and will feature a variety of online panels, events, and awards ceremonies.
Some of the speakers include: Oscar-winner Kevin Willmott; current Kansas poet laureate, Huascar Medina; former Kansas poet laureate, Kevin Rabas; author Kerrie Flanagan on Fiction Writing; a poetry panel with Roy Beckemeyer, William Karnowski, and Kris Polansky; Richard Gwin will speak on photojournalism; Barbara Waterman-Peters will address Illustrations; Toni Cummins will discuss yoga to help writers with mobility and creativity issues; Rich Hawkins will cover writing for radio; and Michael Pearce will discuss nature writing.
